[FFS Rose he can see why you were replaced by a spazzy little dog in the parallel universe, because you go straight for whatever's messiest and just dig it all the hell up.

He'd already gone through this mess with River herself. He even had his older self (where did he get the nerve?!) getting on his back about it! If it were someone other than Rose, and he weren't so worried about her state of mind, he'd be a bit cross at getting interrogated so pointedly about something so personal. As it is, he just sighs exasperatedly, with the nearest thing he gets to a shit-eating grin, which is more like "oh, good, I guess we're doing this now."

Because the alternative is admitting that it's kind of turning several knives, and he the last thing he wants to do at the moment is let her feel like she's hurting him. Especially with the nonsense his previous and future selves seem to be pulling.

So instead he just gives her a look like she's being a bit of a smartass, and grins and bears it.

And sends her the coordinates.]

I mean the TARDIS, the one I live in, have lived in for two-hundred years. I'll have it ready by the time you get here, so don't sit about worrying, there.

[And don't quibble with him about TARDIS ownership pls+tyvm.]

[Turns her right hand to show off her guild mark!]

[But she's already moving outside... but she is literally not setting foot in River's TARDIS. YOU WILL HAVE TO PICK HER UP AND CARRY HER FROM OUTSIDE WHERE SHE WILL JUST STAND THERE LIKE AN UNINVITED VAMPIRE.]

[Oh good she's making a stand, because that's a great hill to die on, very scenic. Whatever else may have changed, at least she's still got a talent for cutting straight to the most dramatic point of tension.

The Doctor raises his eyebrows, then just gives her a dubious look.]

...not sure they'll appreciate my using their tea set, but that's fine with me, if you'd prefer.

[...if she's taking over the tea-making duties, she'd better let him know before she gets him in trouble with Mirajane.]

[Giggles.] I'll just ask whoever's on duty. I'm not even sure but Jack might still be takin' shifts there even. Good to keep busy, and part of Torchwood keepin' an eye on things.

All right, all right, try and find some snacks, while you're at it, I'll be there in a flash.

[Laughs.] The guild's basically a pub yanno? Although Mirajane said she never cooked so many chips until she met me.

[AND INDEED: when 11 gets there, Rose has tea, chips, and other assorted pub-esque snacks around. But not fishfingers and custard because that is for Amy and him.]

[The Doctor strolls on in as promised, pausing to look about, then grinning and waving, strolling on over with those fast, long Doctor strides and rubbing his hands together.]

Hello, Rose, ooh, what've we got here, then?

[Because he's a goddamn child and may have gotten distracted with the unexpected array of snacks.]

Chips! [A cheeky tongue lolling grin, being snarky of course.]

[There's also: pretzels, popcorn, peanuts, crisps, and cookie-style biscuits.]

[Rose however hold up a fried zucchini stick.] Want one? They're a bit like tempura, yeah?

[He takes it, giving it an experimental whiff as he glances around. ...maybe looking for something to dip things in because who doesn't like dipping things.]

Try it. [SO many dips: ranch, honey mustard, ketchup, vinegar... etc. If there's custard, it's not because Rose requested it, so you can thank Mirajane for that.]

[The Doctor ducks his head to sniff at the arrangement of dips skeptically, as well... then dips the tip of his finger in the honey-mustard and sucks it clean.]

Oh, yes, that should work.

[He brightens, then dips the zucchini in the honey mustard, and munches on it merrily.

...at least, for a few seconds, before he sort of freezes and gulps, peering down at the uneaten half, his voice a bit hoarse as if he just realized what soylent green is made of.]

...whot-... is this zucchini?

[Freezes mid-bite like she's about to perform CPR.]

Oh my god, you're not allergic to that too, are you? Are they the main ingredient in aspirin? Do I need to get dog charcoal?!

Who's allergic to aspirin and cured by chocolate?!

[Pause.] Oh. Right. You weren't here for that.

[CIRCLE DOODLES WITH HER FINGER.] Fluffy got suicidal and took an aspirin. Part of why Jack, Martha, and I were all taking shifts so he was never alone. Most of our fights before you came were about that. I was scared of making it worse.

What's wrong with zucchini chips? I like 'em! [Noms!]

[The Doctor gives her one of those wry smiles she usually gets when she tries to hold her knowledge of Time Lords or time and space over his head. He already knows very well what sort of state his younger self was in, as well, and he doesn't much enjoy either of those things... even if the concern's a bit touching.]

I'll be fine.

[He pauses a tick, snagging a pretzel and dipping that in the honey-mustard sauce, and giving her an amused, skeptical sideways look.]

...dog charcoal?

We didn't actually give him dog charcoal. I didn't even think of it. Think I should next time? Might discourage him from scarin' us like that again.

[The Doctor raises an eyebrow at her, smiles wryly, and nudges his arm lightly against her side, to answer without dislodging her.]

...don't think I'd say worse.

[She's not quite as bad as she makes herself sound at the moment... and even if she were, he'd never hold it against her the way he holds it against himself.]

[Luckily Rose is really easy to cheer up. It doesn't stay permanent, but it's easy to get there.]
